Supermarkets & Grocery Shops Cartwright Gardens & King’s Cross (2024)

Supermarkets and Grocery Stores near Cartwright Gardens London

Whilst eating out is a favourite pastime of our guests here at the Mentone Hotel, because of course we have plenty of places to eat around Cartwright Gardens, we do still get requests for directions to local grocers and supermarkets. It’s useful to grab a few supplies if you’re off out for the day and need a packed lunch, or if you just want to enjoy a picnic in Cartwright Gardens or one of the nearby parks.

So, I thought I’d put a list together of grocers near Cartwright Gardens and supermarkets near King’s Cross that are pretty much within walking distance of the Mentone.

Grocers near Cartwright Gardens

When you say ‘grocers’, you immediately think of old-fashioned, family-run corner shops. Well, people of a certain age do, including me.

So here are a few smaller, local grocers near Cartwright Gardens that pretty much fit this description:

Bloomsbury Food & Wine

2 minute walk from the hotel
44 Tavistock Place, London WC1H 9RE
Open 8am to 1am every day

This is a very small convenience store just around the corner from the hotel. There’s a limited selection of fruit and veg and a few basic groceries, as well as off-sales. You won’t get a ‘full shop’ here, but it’s fine for the odd essential.

Supersave

3 minute walk from the hotel
Medway Court, Judd Street, London WC1H 9QZ
Open weekdays from 7am-12am, weekends 8am-12am

This independent supermarket near Cartwright Gardens London is well-stocked with fruit and veg, newspapers, Lottery, general groceries, refrigerated and frozen food, confectionary, wine and beer, cold drinks, toiletries and household goods.

Tian Tian Market

5 minute walk from the hotel
24-26 Brunswick Square, London WC1N 1AE
Open Monday-Thursday & Sunday 10am-9pm, Friday and Saturday 10am-9.30pm

Tian Tian is a popular specialist Asian grocery shop located in the Brunswick Centre. They sell fresh and frozen produce, Asian-branded soft drinks, and Asian groceries and ingredients.

Euston Xpress

10 minute walk from the hotel
70 Eversholt Street, London NW1 1DA
Open Monday-Thursday & Sunday 7am to 11pm, Friday and Saturday 7am to 12pm

If you’re looking for traditional grocers near Cartwright Gardens you’ll find this small corner shop fairly close to the hotel. There’s a selection of fruit and veg outside, plus it’s got a well-stocked off-licence and all the usual grocery essentials.

Supermarkets near Cartwright Gardens London

From the smaller ‘local’ or ‘express’ versions of the high street supermarkets, to full-sized superstores, there’s a good selection of supermarkets near Cartwright Gardens London in addition to our local independent convenience stores.

Waitrose

4 minute walk from the hotel
The Brunswick Centre, 23-39 Handel St, London WC1N 1JX
Open Monday to Friday 8am to 10pm, Saturday 8am to 9pm and Sunday 12pm to 6pm

If you want a full-size supermarket near Cartwright Gardens London, Waitrose in the Brunswick Centre is literally just around the corner from the Mentone and stocks pretty much everything you might need.

Sainsbury’s Local

6 minute walk from the hotel
Unit 5, Brunswick Centre, London WC1N 1BS
Open 7am to 11pm every day

Another one located in the Brunswick Centre, this store sells almost everything you’d find in a full-size Sainsbury’s, just in a smaller setting. There’s fresh and frozen food, fruit and veg, alcoholic beverages, everyday groceries, homewares and personal care.

Tesco Express

6 minute walk from the hotel
40 Bernard Street, Russell Square, London WC1N 1QJ
Open 24 hours, 7 days a week*

Sells everything you’d expect in a ‘local’ version of a big supermarket. Just be aware though that whilst it’s advertised as being open 24 hours, the schedule may differ on major public holidays, and if the Google reviews are to be believed, you might find it closed some nights the rest of the year too.

Amazon Fresh

17 minute walk from the hotel
Unit 4, Euston Tower, 296 Euston Rd, London NW1 3DP
Open 7 days a week, 7am to 11pm

Amazon Fresh stores feature ‘Just Walk Out’ technology (so I’ve read), so you literally just scan a QR code, tap a payment card on your app when you arrive or leave, and the technology automatically detects what you’ve put in your shopping bag. It’s all a bit sci-fi for me, but thankfully they also have a ‘normal’ checkout there for anyone who’s a bit of a technophobe.

Supermarkets near King’s Cross

If you’re on the lookout for a supermarket near King’s Cross, we have a fair few to choose from locally. There are a handful of independents, but again generally you’re looking at the big high street names around this area.

Here are some of the most popular…

Little Waitrose

11 minute walk from the hotel
King’s Cross Station, Euston Rd, London N1C 4AP
Open Monday to Saturday 6am to 11.30pm, Sunday 8am to 11.30pm

This is exactly what it says on the tin, the ‘little’ version of Waitrose, located within King’s Cross Station. It’s not actually that small, and they do a pretty good selection of fresh bread, rolls and cakes, everyday groceries, fresh and frozen produce, salad and veg and alcoholic beverages. Ideally located if you’re heading off somewhere from King’s Cross Station and want to grab a few bits for your journey.

Waitrose

20 minute walk from the hotel
Coal Drops Yard, 1 Wharf Road, London N1C 4BZ
Open Monday to Saturday 8am to 10pm, Sunday 12pm to 6pm

This full-size Waitrose supermarket is located in Coal Drops Yard, a popular shopping complex and public space close to both King’s Cross and St. Pancras stations. It’s worth having a browse once you’ve done your shopping – or maybe before – and take in the cobbled streets and brick arches and all the independent retailers scattered amongst them. You won’t go hungry either, with a choice of over 50 shops, cafés, restaurants and bars to drop into.

G Express Food Store

20-25 minute walk from the hotel
130-132 York Way, London N1 0AX
Open Monday to Saturday 6am to 11pm and Sunday 8am to 10.30pm

This independent supermarket near King’s Cross advertises itself as selling ‘intercontinental and organic products’. They’ve got quite a large selection of fresh fruit and veg, plenty of everyday groceries, a refrigerated section, wine and beer, confectionary, toiletries and household goods.
